Founder & Executive Director

Shakeerah Johnson

With over 11 years of dedicated experience across mental health, human services, and the criminal justice system, Shakeerah Johnson brings an unmatched combination of frontline expertise, clinical rigor, and lived understanding to Incarcerated State of Mind LLC (ISOM). Shakeerah holds 5 academic degrees—including a Master of Science in Human Services and Leadership—and 5 professional certifications (Certified Life Coach, Certified Community Coach, CSC-AD, RPS and Family Development Credential).

Her career spans the full spectrum of the justice and behavioral health continuum. She has served inside a maximum-security Maryland correctional facility, worked directly within a New York jail, and provided critical guidance within New York and Maryland courthouses, homeless shelters, and community agencies. Having supervised multi-site mental health programs and collaborated with international mental health organizations serving diverse populations across the globe, Shakeerah has counseled individuals from all walks of life—including high-profile figures, justice-impacted individuals, and families navigating complex systems.

Currently practicing as a Substance Use Clinician in Maryland, Shakeerah is actively expanding her professional scope toward nationwide multi-state licensure. Having navigated deeply personal traumas and systemic challenges firsthand, she knows that the institutions designed to support people are often fragmented, leaving justice-impacted individuals and their families pushed aside or treated like a box to be checked. Driven by genuine empathy, deep-rooted passion, and clinical insight, Shakeerah created ISOM to build reputable, sustainable programs and deliver practical tools that empower individuals to rewrite their narratives.

Her expertise in human development and mental wellness has earned wide public recognition. Shakeerah was featured in Authority Magazine on Medium sharing authoritative insights on overcoming burnout, and her work on addiction and justice reform was featured on C-SPAN’s national programming addressing the opioid crisis.
